It was festival time - a national celebration
This was the big one – it was Passover
Passover is the festival when we remember who we are
We may be over-run by a foreign army,
Taxed to our eyeballs and struggling to make ends meet
But we are a people
A people with an identity
A history
A heritage
A proud heritage
And Passover says it all.
We’re God’s people
A rescued people
Saved by the blood of a lamb
Painted on the doorposts of our slave houses.
Promised a new land
Made into a nation
We may be a shadow of what we were
But we have a history to be proud of.
And we will never let go of the hope
That one day God will make us great again
That’s why we celebrate Passover
That’s why we line the streets
And wave our Palm leaves
That’s why we strew the road with our cloaks
And shout at the tops of our voices
Hosanna, Hosanna, Hosanna.
Blessed is everyone who comes in the name of the Lord
Years ago, when we had a king
A real king
A great king
This would be his coronation festival
Every year he would lead the procession.
So we gather in hope
We gather to act it out again
Even if acting is all we can do
While we long
For God to send another great king.
AMEN
