Describing God - a prayer

God, you are beyond describing
But in words and images inspired by your Spirit
We catch glimpses of your eternal nature.
Help me find the words to respond to who you are;
To express the groans and longings of my heart;
To speak hope and blessing to those whose path I share.
And grant me the peace of knowing
That when I cannot find the words
To describe my deepest thoughts and feelings,
Your Spirit hears the yearnings of my heart
